Top Five Fabulous! October 31, 2019
1. In PE, we continued to work on our badminton skills. After giving feedback to our partners and asking them for feedback, we could not believe how much easier this skill has become.
2. In math, we showed numbers using a place value mat and showed the same number in different ways. For example, we could show 43 with 4 tens and 3 ones, or we could show 3 tens and 13 ones. We rolled a number using a double die. The outside number was the tens and the inside number was the ones. We used a place value mat, a hundred chart, and place value pockets. We also used ten frames to show numbers in different ways. This week we also had a pumpkin investigation. We used our math skills to describe the pumpkins. We estimated and then measured the height, and circumference. We counted the number of seeds and organized the seeds to that they were easier to count. We also had a chance to sketch the pumpkin using our observational skills and then created a jack-o-lantern. It was so much fun!
3. In literacy, we had a special guest come in to read us a book. Const. Mattice came to read us a book called, “Dex: The Heart of a Hero”. This book was about being a hero and the things that we can do in our lives to help our friends.
4. In social studies, we worked on transportation in the past. We learned that the people in the past, in the East Coast of Canada would use tall ships (to cross the ocean) and wagons and horses (on the land).
5. This week was Halloween! We had fun activities in the morning where we were able to work with all of the grade 2 teachers (Mrs. Gallant, Mrs. Jenkins and Mrs. Reyes). We put our costumes on for the afternoon and had a Halloween parade throughout the school and ended in the gym for a dance party. We came back to the classroom to play games with our friends. The teachers were impressed that the kids included everyone, the played fairly and they were super kind friends!
