Top Five Fabulous!  October 4, 2019

1.  In science, we did an experiment to test how strong magnets can be and if the force of the magnet will pass through objects.  We also made a blueprint for our game using magnets.  We had to think of the materials that we would need, draw a picture and write the steps to play the game.  We brought recycled materials and have started to build our games!  We will play next week and share our games with our buddies.
2.  In PE this week, we had a teacher come in to teach us about yoga.  We learned some new poses and used our imaginations to go to the jungle, and to the beach.  We practiced breathing and calming our bodies and our brains.
3.  In math, we read the story, “My Little Sister Ate One Hare”. We noticed that there was an increasing pattern in this book.  We organized each of the animals in a graph and we showed an increasing pattern (with a pattern rule of increasing by 1 each time).
4.  In literacy, we have started our DAILY FIVE!  In daily five, there are five literacy centres that we cycle through.  Our centres are: listen to reading, buddy reading, writing, word work, and guided reading with our teachers.  When we are in guided reading we do a little word work game, we discuss and use our reading strategies and then we get to read a book.

5.  Our school has started a literacy month!  Mrs. Hoye came to school and shared a book that she wrote with all of the students in the school.  Today, we had our first buddy session.  We picked our favourite book and we read it to our buddy and they helped us to read. We also had a chance to share our magnet game and we will play the game with our buddies next week.
