Top Five Fabulous! October 18, 2019

In math, we learned a new game called ‘Ten Tens’. You get 10 dice and you roll it and you try to make 10 in any way that you can.  You and your partner have to write 10, tens on your white board and each time you can make 10, you cross out one of the tens on your board.  The first person to make 10 tens will win the game and you can try once again.  We are learning about friendly numbers because it makes it easier to add and subtract.  We also watched a funny video to help us to remember the friends of ten. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0bKIeYdvCc
We had poetry week this week at Midnapore school.  We listened to many different poems all week and we had to have a poem in our pocket in case we were asked to read it throughout the day.  Many of the kids were given a prize for having a poem in their pocket.  Today, we had a different teacher come into our class to read a poem to us and our teachers went to read poems to different classes.
In social studies, we made 3 different trading cards.  We made two cards for the landscape (a lighthouse on a cliff, and trees in a field) of the East Coast of Canada.  We also made one with the Acadian flag for the symbol of the East Coast. We love to make these trading cards. They show our learning and they are so cute.  Some of the kids went home and drew lighthouses to share with their families and tell them all about the landscapes on the East coast!
In PE, we are learning a new skill.  We are learning how to play badminton.  We are passing a birdie to a friend and we have to try to pass it back.  This is a very difficult skill, but we are getting better every day!

We wrote an acrostic poem this week using our names.  This was very challenging because we had to describe ourselves using the letters in our names.  We brainstormed with a partner before we set out to write in our writing journal.  We will work on the art part of this next week!
