Top Five Fabulous! October 25, 2019
1. In art, we worked on snowmen for Acorn art. We used tracers to cut out the shape for the snowmen. Then we added a carrot nose, a smile, buttons, arms and a scarf to keep them warm. After making the snowman, we made snowflakes falling down with white paint. The snowman is looking up at the snowflakes in our piece of art. Please look in my backpack to see my art work.
2. In math, we are working on showing numbers in different ways. We showed the number twenty. We could show it by using tally marks, dice, ten frames, dominoes, words, pictures, place value, money and equations (addition and subtraction). We also worked on numbers up to and including fifty, by using ten frames. We created a number on a ten frame, and our friend had to write the digits to represent the number.
3. In social studies, we made some new trading cards. We learned about the language spoken in Acadian communities on the East coast of Canada. The Acadians speak French. We learned a song with French phrases. Please listen to our song using this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXkJ88ygPY0. We also learned about the heritage of our friends in our class after reading the book, "Where Are You From?". While some families came from all over the world before settling in Canada, some families have been in Canada for thousands of years (our friends who have an Aboriginal background). It was cool to look at a world map to find out where the families in our class came from and then talked about how we are all now Canadian.
4. In literacy, we worked on Daily Five. We had 2 new centres. We wrote about how we show that we are kind friends and also the '_ap' and '_in' word families. Most of the guided reading groups worked with non-fiction books this week.
5. In PE, we continued to work on our badminton skills. We are persevering and we are getting so much better with this skill! The kids are helping each other to learn, by giving feedback to their partners and also using our words to encourage their efforts. We are really learning to work together as a community in rooms 15 and 16!
