Top Five Fabulous! October 25, 2019 1. In art, we worked on snowmen for Acorn art. We used tracers to cut out the shape for the snowmen. Then we added a carrot nose, a smile, buttons, arms and a scarf to keep them warm. After making the snowman, we made snowflakes falling down with white paint. The snowman is looking up at the snowflakes in our piece of art. Please look in my backpack to see my art work. 2. In math, we are working on showing numbers in different ways. We showed the number twenty. We could show it by using tally marks, dice, ten frames, dominoes, words, pictures, place value, money and equations (addition and subtraction). We also worked on numbers up to and including fifty, by using ten frames. We created a number on a ten frame, and our friend had to write the digits to represent the number. 3. In social studies, we made some new trading c...

Top Five Fabulous! October 18, 2019 1 In math, we learned a new game called ‘Ten Tens’. You get 10 dice and you roll it and you try to make 10 in any way that you can. You and your partner have to write 10, tens on your white board and each time you can make 10, you cross out one of the tens on your board. The first person to make 10 tens will win the game and you can try once again. We are learning about friendly numbers because it makes it easier to add and subtract. We also watched a funny video to help us to remember the friends of ten. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0bKIeYdvCc 2 We had poetry week this week at Midnapore school. We listened to many different poems all week and we had to have a poem in our pocket in case we were asked to read it throughout the day. Many of the kids were given a prize for having a poem in their pock...

Top Five Fabulous! October 10, 2019 1. In math, we have started to learn about decreasing patterns. Decreasing patterns start with the biggest number and they get smaller each time. I might start with 10 and decrease by 2 each time. We used math manipulatives to build the pattern and then we recorded them in our math journal. 2. In literacy, we worked on our Daily 5. We love going to the different literacy centres and reading with our teachers. This week was joke week at Midnapore school. Ask me to tell you a hilarious joke! Next week will be poetry week. 3. We have started social studies this week. We are learning about the East coast of Canada. We looked at a map of Canada first, so that we knew where the East Coast was in Canada. We then looked at pictures in small groups and talked about what ...

Top Five Fabulous! October 4, 2019 1. In science, we did an experiment to test how strong magnets can be and if the force of the magnet will pass through objects. We also made a blueprint for our game using magnets. We had to think of the materials that we would need, draw a picture and write the steps to play the game. We brought recycled materials and have started to build our games! We will play next week and share our games with our buddies. 2. In PE this week, we had a teacher come in to teach us about yoga. We learned some new poses and used our imaginations to go to the jungle, and to the beach. We practiced breathing and calming our bodies and our brains. 3. In math, we read the story, “My Little Sister Ate One Hare”. We noticed that there was an increasing pattern in this book. We organized each of the animals in a graph and we...
