Top Five Fabulous!  December 6, 2019

1.   In art, we worked on a porthole.  We used magazines to rip out the colours that we needed.  We used a light blue for the sky and a dark blue for the water.  We will add sailboats into our picture next week.
2.   In science, we have been learning about boats.  We conducted a few different experiments.  In one, we looked at different objects and tested to see if they would float or if they would sink.  In the second one, we were looking to see which objects would absorb the water.  Finally, we used plasticine to see if we could make it float.  We discovered in the first experiment that the plasticine would sink, we had to figure out a design to make it float.  We needed to make sure that it had a flat bottom and tall sides so that the water could not get on board.  We really had to persevere for this job, but we all made the plasticine float!
3.   In social studies, we looked at photos of the Bluenose II.  We brainstormed a bunch of questions because we have a special guest coming from the Bluenose II next week.
4.   In PE this week, we had 3 students teach the class.  They reached 100 on their home reading map and they chose to teach PE as their reward.

5.   We read a few different stories about boats.  These were fictional stories and the characters were Theodore Too and Lucy Tug.  You can actually go to Halifax and you can take a ride on Theodore.
