Top Five Fabulous! December 13, 2019
1. In math, we had a Grinch workshop. We had to work with a group of kids on the first day. We were either in the hat, collar or eye group. We had to make the objects and measure them. Hats were 1cm = 5 cents, the collars were 1cm = 2 cents and the eyes were 1cm = 1 cent. Each kid had $1.00 to buy one hat, one collar and two eyes. They had to figure out how much money they had spent and they could use the rest to buy presents (presents were 1cent each). We were working on our addition and subtraction math skills.
2. In science, we made boats out of tin foil and they had to carry a load. We had to have a flat bottom, tall sides and no holes. Our boats could carry ten unifix cubes and that represented their cargo. We also had a special guest come in to talk to us about her time working on the Bluenose II. It was interesting to hear all about her hard work, and her experiences sailing around. She got to see so many different things and we loved to hear about the fun times that she had. We learned a lot about a working boat, and the East Coast of Canada.
3. This week our class sang a French song in front of the school. We shared a French song because we have been learning about the East Coast of Canada, where the Acadian people speak French. Five of the students introduced the song, talking about what we are learning in social studies, and then we sang!
4. Yesterday we earned a PJ day! Everyone in our two classes had to show a random act of kindness and another student would report them to the teachers. The teachers would write out the kind act on a heart and our giant Grinch’s heart grew 42 sizes bigger!
5. Our friend Ginger June-bug has been hiding all over our class. The kids in our class have been writing her letters and she is answering them! Ginger June-bug has been working on a Bluenose puzzle, reading a Bluenose adventure book, practicing her letters (especially her letter ‘e’), building an igloo and she was working on her fact families. She must be watching us pretty closely as she is learning some of the things that we are learning at school.
