Top Five Fabulous! September 27, 2019
1. In literacy, we worked on our visualization skills. Mrs. Reyes read the story, “If I Built a House” and she did not show us the illustrations. We had to visualize and then we drew the outside and the inside of the house. After we became the illustrators, we were able to see the pictures in the book.
2. We had our Terry Fox run yesterday afternoon. Everyone in the school went to the gym for an assembly and then we all went outside and we ran or walked. During the week, we watched a video that showed Terry Fox when he was running and we talked about what made him a hero. We worked on an activity where drew what we would want to do to make the world a better place. These were our dreams.
3. In math, we have started to learn about increasing patterns. Ask me what we need to make an increasing pattern work. What is a pattern rule? We built patterns using different materials (unifix cubes, dice, dominoes, and counting chips), and we recorded the pattern and the rule in our math journal. We also played a game called, "Triple X Knockout". In this game, we practiced our addition and subtraction skills.
4. Our favourite book this week was, “You’re Finally Here!” We thought that this book was so funny! We love that we get to read so many books together in grade 2.
5. In science, we worked on some other experiments. We did an experiment to see if different objects and materials would attract to the magnet. Mrs. Jenkins showed us that one penny didn’t attract, and one penny did. We discovered that one penny was newer and the other penny was older which meant that they were made from different materials (copper vs nickel or iron).
