Top Five Fabulous!  September 27, 2019 1.    In literacy, we worked on our visualization skills.  Mrs. Reyes read the story, “If I Built a House” and she did not show us the illustrations.  We had to visualize and then we drew the outside and the inside of the house. After we became the illustrators, we were able to see the pictures in the book. 2.    We had our Terry Fox run yesterday afternoon.  Everyone in the school went to the gym for an assembly and then we all went outside and we ran or walked.  During the week, we watched a video that showed Terry Fox when he was running and we talked about what made him a hero.  We worked on an activity where drew what we would want to do to make the world a better place.  These were our dreams. 3.    In math, we have started to learn about increasing patterns.  Ask me what we need to make an increasing pattern work.  What is a...

Top Five Fabulous!  September 19, 2019 1.     We have started our science unit on magnets.  We used a magnet and we went around our class to test what would attract, and what would not attract.  Some things even repelled!  We found out that if the force of the magnet was strong, we could even attract through a table!   2.     In math, we have continued to learn about patterns.  We worked with a group and we made patterns using a variety of objects (dice, attribute blocks, unifix cubes, money, tens rods and ones units, and chips).  We had to record the pattern in our math journal and we circled the core. 3.     In writing, we read the book, “What Do You Do With a Problem?” We then discussed different problems that the children may have had at recess and then came up with solutions. We will continue to work on this all year! 4.     In PE, w...

Top Five Fabulous!  In math, we read the book, “A Bad Case of the Stripes”.  We started to talk about patterns.  We know that they must repeat and all patterns have a core (the part that we have before it starts to repeat).  The children learned about more complex patterns (for example AABCCD).  We started to make our own patterns on our hand tracings.  We also went on a pattern walk  about side.  Please see some of the photos below.   In literacy, we learned how to buddy read.  We have to sit EEKK (elbow to elbow and knee to knee), the book needs to be in the middle so that we can both see, we use a whisper voice when we are reading and we stick in one spot.  We will continue to practice this all year long.
